MIKE HARVEY – Memorial Race | Celebrating FSC 100 Years – 1920 to 2020

RACE OR CRUISE FROM FREMANTLE TO HILLARY’S
Mike Harvey was a long time member, a good sailor, passionate about his sailing and partner to current member Kaye Riseley. Sadly he was lost to us a few years ago from complications following an accident while assisting a friend and former FSC member in Bali. He was instrumental in starting the Jib & Main division at FSC and liked a drop of red wine. This is a serious but fun event where the winners in each division receive bottles of red wine!

I didn’t meet him before he died although I know how he is a beautiful person.
After sailing, there was lots of love at the presentation.
Every one faces eternal funnel suddenly, I believe he is still living in their heart. Perhaps, he was there invisibly.
I jumped on Flying Sorceress. (I love the boat name!)
The weather was completely cloudy and a bit rainy. The wind was around 10 and 15 knots SW, and the swells were about 50cm.
The racecourse was Freo – no.4 buoy – Channel mark A – Beach – Sorrento – finish at Hillarys.
She did fly on the ocean 7-8knots speed beautifully.

マイク ハーヴイさんのメモリアルヨットレース。直訳すると「飛ぶ魔術師」とゆう、魔法使いを夢見た私にぴったりのヨットにクルーとして参加。レースがありすぎて、なんのレースなのかわからず。とりあえず、フリーマントルからヒラリーまでとゆうログだけ理解して出航。メモリアルレースだと知るのはゴールした後。
風は西オーストラリアの夏特有の南西の風。しかし、強くはなく。10knotsから15knotsで最後に少し吹いたぐらい。それでも18knotsとか。魔術師は平均5knotsでリーチングの時に７-8knotsで飛んでました。日本で強風と言われてた風が西オーストラリアでは普通なので、強風とは？とゆう感覚です。
レース後の結果発表でそこにいる人たちを通じて、彼がどれだけ素晴らしい人なのかを感じました。写真を撮りながら、とても暖かい気持ちをいただきました。
